Saint Leo junior Chris Canene has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week for the period ending December 4.
Canene (Naperville, Ill.) factored in five new program records as the Lions competed at the SCAD Invitational. Canene clocked a time of 56.78 in the 100-yard breaststroke, setting a new school mark while achieving an NCAA "B" standard time. His time was the fastest mark turned in by an SSC swimmer in the 100 breaststroke so far this season.
He replicated his success in the 200-yard breaststroke, notching a first-place time of 2:04.67 en route to a school record, "B" standard time, and the fastest mark in the conference to date. Canene also had a hand in three school relay records. Finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Lions posted a time of 1:26.04. They finished third in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:27.49. The squad also clocked a time of 6:55.01, fastest in the SSC, to finish third in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The Lions return to action on January 3, when they take to the starting blocks at the OB Invitational in Key West, Fla. For the latest news, updates, and information on the Saint Leo men's swim team, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
