TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s swimming team had some respectable individual finishes, but struggled as a team in falling to the University of Tampa and Rollins College on Saturday afternoon at the UT Swimming Complex. The Lions fell to Rollins 62-33 in the days’ first race and dropped a 80-15 decision to Tampa in the final meet of the day.
Despite the final scores, the Lions saw impressive finishes from Erin Hotchkiss, Mindy Pierce, Erin Lucas, Mary Strand and Jessica Pall as all finished in medalists positions for the Lions.
Hotchkiss started the women’s individual events off with a second-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 2:06.22 while Pierce followed that up with a third-place time in the 100 back at 1:05.80. Lucas finished in third in the 50 free with a time of 26.86 seconds.
The Lions then closed out the event on a high note as they placed in the top-3 in the final two individual events of the day as both Strand and Pall finished third in the 500 free (5.52.55) and the 200 IM (2:26.28) respectively.
The Lions will now take almost a month off before traveling to Charlotte, North Carolina to compete in the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships. The meet begins at 8:00 a.m. on February 11.
