Miami, Fla. (February 2, 2008)  - The Saint Leo Lions women’s swim team traveled down to Miami last weekend to compete against Florida International University in a women's only meet. The Golden Panthers would hand the Lions a set back though as Florida International won the meet by the final score of 34-61.

Julie Carusone (So., High Springs, Fla.) was dominant as she had three first place finishes in the meet.  She took victory in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 1:03.97, followed by a first place showing in the 100 Yard Butterfly (59.88), and then swam past the competition in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:07.02). The 200 IM and the 100 Yard Breaststroke were National B time standards and currently rank her 21st and 17th respectively in the nation.

The Lions had several strong individual performances on the day as Erin Hotchkiss (So., Tampa, Fla.) came in second in the 500 Free, finishing just .06 seconds behind the winner with a time of 5:23.25. Hotchkiss also finished second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 11:18.52.

Alisha Adams (Fr., Conway, S.C ) narrowly missed out on a top two finish as she finished just .01 seconds behind the second place winner in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Adams also finished second in the in the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:04. 26). While Erin Lucas (So., Steubenville, Ohio) finished second in the 50 Yard Freestyle (26.08) and the 100 Yard Freestyle (58.59)

The Lions swimmers came together as a team to set a new school record in the 200 Medley (1:57.27). Although the ladies couldn’t scratch out a victory in the 400 Free Relay, a new school record was also set for that event with a time of 3:56.01.

The Lions hit the pool one more time February 15-17 in Orlando, Fla. at The Sunshine State Conference Championships
