Tampa, Fla. (January 19, 2008) - The Saint Leo women’s swim team made the trek down to the University of Tampa to take on the Spartans as well as the Tars of Rollins College to compete in a three school swim meet. The Lions were defeated by the University of Tampa, 61-26 but rebounded to take victory over the Tars 54-41.

The Lions has many impressive individual performances on the afternoon. Leading the way once again for Saint Leo was Julie Carusome (So., High Springs, Fla.) She snatched victory in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:10.34), more than six seconds ahead of the next closest competitor. She also picked a second place showing in the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:04.87) and had a third place finish in the 200 Yard IM (2:25.04).

Alisha Adams (Fr., Conway, S.C.) was the only other Lion to pick up a victory for the Lions on the day as she secured the winners circle in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:03.58.

Erin Lucas (So., Steubenville, Ohio) also had a strong showing for Lions. Lucas picked up a second place victory in the 100 Yard Freestyle (57.16). She also captured third place in the 50 Yard Freestyle (26.66). Erin Hotchkiss (So., Tampa, Fla.) also picked a pair of third place markings including the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:38.11) and the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:04.87). Mindy Pierce (Fr., Germany/Ramstein American HS) also had a third place finish in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:19.07).

The women will splash back into action February 2 at Florida International University.
