SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's soccer team and head coach Tony Paris announce the addition of John Fletcher to the coaching staff as an assistant coach on Tuesday, June 6.
"I am delighted to have someone with Fletcher's background on the staff," head coach Tony Paris stated. "His knowledge of the conference makes him a valuable asset to have on the line and the training field. He brings a wealth of experience from his other stints in the US which will also complement the program."
Fletcher, who is a familiar face to the Sunshine State Conference, joins the Lions staff from the LA Galaxy where he was the head coach for the 02 and 03 teams, as well as the director of camps. Fletcher was a four-time All-Sunshine State Conference player for the Eckerd College Tritons, where he was a defender from 2005-09. Fletcher, a three-time captain for the Tritons soccer team, graduated from Eckerd in 2010 with a Business Management degree with a minor in Business Leadership.
While in California working for the LA Galaxy, Fletcher was the Technical Director for a year at So Cal Academy in Pasadena. Prior to his two roles with the Galaxy and So Cal Academy, Fletcher was the founder and co-owner of FS Academy where he recognized a gap in the market for high-level coaching within a few parts of California. The FS Academy featured weekly clinics and Futsal leagues.
In 2015, Fletcher represented the Bahamian League Champions in the CONCACAF Champions League in Haiti and was a member of the National Cup finalists in 2014.
Fletcher has held coaching stints for the Real So Cal Soccer Club, 2010-15, and the Professional Development League Ocean City F.C. in New Jersey. The London, England native played professionally with the Queens Park Rangers F.C. & A.F.C. in Bournemouth, U.K. from 2003-05 and 2009-10, where he also played for Ocean City F.C. from 2008-10 and 2011-12. In 2010, he was named National Defender of the Year while playing for the Ocean City F.C.
