Hot off an SSC Championship and regional bid, the Lions are ranked 17th early on
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has released their preseason rankings for the upcoming 2014 season. After clinching the 2013 Sunshine State Conference Championship and hosting the first round of the NCAA South Region Tournament, the Saint Leo men's soccer team begins the 2014 season with a ranking of 17th.
The 2013 season resulted in Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year and NSCAA South Region Coach of the Year honors for head coach Keith Fulk. In addition, the Lions rounded out the year with numerous awards, including six All-SSC selections, four Daktronics All-Region honorees, three NSCAA All-Region selections, five Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week, and two NSCAA All-America Third Team selections.
Ranked 17th, the Lions are the second team in the Sunshine State Conference to be selected into the top-25 poll. Conference foe and local rival Rollins College is the other SSC opponent, coming in with a ranking of fifth.
Saint Leo will kick off the 2014 season with a home match against Spring Hill College on Thursday, September 4. The contest is slated for 4:30 p.m. at University Soccer Field.
