TAMPA, Fla. – The seventh-ranked Saint Leo men's soccer team picked up another Sunshine State Conference victory behind a 3-1 triumph over the University of Tampa on Tuesday evening. The win, over Head Coach Keith Fulk's alma mater, marked the Lions' seventh consecutive game without a loss.
The Lions improve to 10-1-1 overall and are 4-0-1 in the SSC while the Spartans drop to 6-5-2 and are 2-4-0 in conference.
Saint Leo got off to an early start as midfielder Javiem Blanchette scored an unassisted goal in the 28th minute.
The host Spartans quickly evened up the score with a Tyler Blackwood goal to knot the game at one as the first half came to a close.
Saint Leo prevailed through the second half upping the score to three. Within ten minutes of the second half whistle, the Lions' Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel found the back of the net from Edgar Herrera. Josh Davis quickly followed suit with an unassisted goal to put the score at 3-1 in favor of the Green and Gold.
Tampa outshot Saint Leo in both halves 13-7 but was unable to convert the shots into goals behind the outstanding efforts of reigning conference Player of the Week Manuel Schoenhuber.
The Lions return home and will face Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at University Field.
