SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 17th-ranked Saint Leo men's soccer team registered a dominating 4-0 victory over Eckerd College on Saturday afternoon as Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel scored twice and registered an assist in giving the Lions the win.
Dominating the time of possession on offense, the Lions (5-1) goalkeeper Manuel Schoenhuber registered two saves as the Saint Leo defense held their opponents from St. Petersburg to just four shots total in the contest.
Schultze-Geisthovel opened up scoring in the sixth minute and repeated the feat in the 40th to give the Lions a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half Javiem Blanchette increased the Lions' lead to 3-0 in the 55th minute as he touched a pass from Edgar Herrera, who picked up to helpers on the day, and blasted it past the Eckerd keeper.
Scoring wrapped up in the 60th minute when Matt Campbell, entering the game just moments prior, caught a Schultze-Geisthovel pass in stride and slotted it home to give the Lions' their 4-0 advantage.
Schoenhuber earned the win for Saint Leo and improves to 5-1 overall while Toni Virtanen notched eight saves but fell to 2-3-2 on the season.
The Lions take the win and use the momentum for their next home contest, in just four days when they welcome Nova Southeastern into University Field for a region contest. The Lions and Sharks will square off on Wednesday night with kick off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
