#17 Lions Drop Nailbiter to #3 Tars in Regional Showdown

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The No. 17 Saint Leo men's soccer team could not answer two second half goals as the Rollins Tars handed the Lions a 2-1 setback in South Region action on Wednesday evening.

Despite suffering their first loss of the season, the Lions (4-1) had a number of chances to knot the score in the waning minutes of the game but could not capitalize en route to the 2-1 final.

Keneil Baker picked up the win in goal for Rollins (6-0), playing all 90 minutes as he recorded four saves.  Manuel Schoenhuber played 89-plus minutes in goal for the Lions, sitting only a moment due to equipment problems, and registered five saves.

After a scoreless first half the host Tars picked up the pressure coming out of halftime.

In the 52nd minute an equipment issue forced Schoenhuber to the sidelines and Rollins took full advantage when Tosan Popo found the back of the net for the game's first goal.

Popo then struck again in the 62nd minute to extend the Tars lead to 2-0.

Javeim Blanchette would quickly provide an answer five minutes later to pull the Lions back within a goal but the Tars defense held steady the rest of the way despite a number of close calls from an aggressive Saint Leo attack.

Saint Leo returns home this weekend and will face Eckerd College in another region match.  Kick off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday
