Lions Keep it Going with 3-2 Win over PBA

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Edgar Herrera's 77th minute goal broke a 2-2 tie and sent the Saint Leo men's soccer team to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic at a rowdy University Field on Saturday evening.

The victory kept the Lions unblemished as they move to 4-0 on the season while PBA (1-1-1) heads back to south Florida with its first loss of 2013.

Herrera's strike capped off a stellar second half for the Lions as they responded from a 2-1 halftime deficit with two unanswered goals for the victory.  For many of the 313 fans in attendance it appeared that it was the Lions with the fresher legs as the minutes racked up.   Using that to their advantage, Saint Leo was able to maintain possession for a good majority of the half.

Scoring opened up quickly as the Sailfish struck in the third minute but Javiem Blanchette provided an answer just two minutes later with an unassisted strike from inside the box.

The goal explosion to open the game also closed out the half as PBA was able to sneak in the go-ahead tally with just 46 seconds left in the stanza.  It would provide the advantage that Saint Leo would have to overcome in second 45 minutes.

A Lukas Cramer header off of a Michael Panter corner kick in the 58th minute got the second-half scoring started that would conclude with Herrera's 77th minute magic.

A busy night in goal for Manuel Schoenhuber saw him pick up his fourth win of the season after posting a second-half clean sheet.  He would finish the night with nine saves while only allowing two goals.

The Lions now turn their attention to another regional contest when they face Rollins on Wednesday.  Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.
