Men's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Decision to Tampa, 5-0
TAMPA, Fla. – The men's soccer team dropped a non-conference game to the University of Tampa on Thursday night at Pepin Stadium by a final score of 5-0.
Tampa struck first in the 13th minute when Naysir Rodriguez received a cross from Alex Knaggs and kicked it in the right side of the goal, giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
In the 25th minute the Spartans took a 2-0 lead when Matt Noble placed one to the right of the Lions' 'keeper. The assists came from Dominic Goncalves and Brian Fekete. Under seven minutes later Noble struck again, also off of an assist from Goncalves, giving the Spartans a 3-0 lead going into the half. The Lions managed just two shots and one corner in the first half.
The Spartans continued to put pressure on the Saint Leo defense, striking for the fourth time in the 52nd minute with an unassisted shot into the upper-right corner from Joshua Freese.
Just five minutes later Samonda Johnson found the back of the net off of a pass from Freese. That goal extended the Spartans lead to five.
The Lions did manage to get four shots off in the second half, totaling six shots on the night. Saint Leo goalkeepers had a combined five saves on the night.
The Lions get back into action on Saturday, Oct 27 for their Senior Night game against the Nova Southeastern Sharks. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
