SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University head men's soccer coach Keith Fulk has announced his team's 2012 regular season schedule. In total, the Lions will compete in 15 games while hosting eight home matches.
"We have a very challenging schedule right out of the gate," said Fulk. We need to be ready to go 100 percent every time we hit the field."
The Lions will begin their campaign on Thursday, August 30, when they open home action against Warner University. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
Two days later, Saint Leo will take to their home field for a critical non-conference tilt with West Florida (Sept. 1), before opening Sunshine State Conference action on the road against defending SSC Champions Lynn University (Sept. 12).
Home matches against Barry and rival Tampa will give way to trips to Melbourne's Florida Tech (Sept. 22) as well as Palm Beach Atlantic University to close-out the month of September.
The jump to October puts the Lions on the road for three critical in-region contests as they travel to Florida Southern (Oct. 3), host Nova Southeastern (Oct. 6), before taking trips to Miami Shores, Fla. to play Barry (Oct.9) and Winter Park, Fla. to challenge a perennial top-10 team in Rollins (Oct.13).
After a home showdown with Florida Tech (Oct.17), Saint Leo will host Lynn (Oct. 20) in non-conference, senior night action. In one final regular season showdown, the Lions will travel to Tampa to clash with the Spartans.
In one interesting twist to the 2012 season, the SSC has implemented the 'plus-four' system which staggers four random SSC opponents against the Lions in non-conference tilts. This season sees Barry, Florida Tech, Lynn, and Tampa as their challengers.
The SSC Tournament is scheduled to take place between Tuesday, October 30 and Sunday, November 4. Places and times are still to be determined.
