Men's Soccer Preps For Spring Competition

Spring Season Highlighted by Showdown with Rowdies

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Head Coach Joel Harrison has recently announced his team's 2011 spring schedule. The Lions have six non-championship dates lined up, culminating with a showdown against Division I opponent, the University of South Florida.

All though it seems the 2010 fall season just finished, preparations are already underway into making sure that the 2011 championship season is a successful one.

The Lions concluded 2010 with an impressive 9-6 record. Unfortunately, a 3-5 Sunshine State Conference mark, a SSC Tournament loss to Florida Tech, as well as a 6-6 in-region record, kept the Lions short of their NCAA Tournament hopes.

Still, Coach Harrison continues to boast a positive attitude and believes taking on talented competition during the spring will correlate to a prepared and focused team in 2011.

The Lions will open the spring when they take on the Clearwater Chargers US Soccer Development Academy on Feb. 26.

Up next, the IMG US Soccer Academy Development Academy will try and test Saint Leo, Mar. 5. One week later, the Lions will travel to Lakeland, Fla. to challenge Florida Southern. The friendly is in support of the Brandon Soccer Club and is scheduled to take place March 11.

The end of March brings a significant test for the Green & Gold as they will take on the Tampa Bay FC Rowdies, Mar. 30. That event is being hosted by the Azalea Soccer Club.

The U17 Men's National Team will then visit Saint Leo, Apr. 2, before the squad welcomes back past Saint Leo men's soccer players to participate in the annual alumni game on the same day.

Finally, the Lions will battle the University of South Florida during the team's final spring date. The final date still has not been solidified, as it scheduled to take place on April 8 or 9.
