SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Saint Leo men's soccer team defeated the North Georgia Saints 3-0, Saturday evening from University Field.

Bruce Cutler improved to 7-for-7 lifetime from the penalty kick area, where he delivered the first two goals of the night. Bobby Huertas connected on his fourth goal in two games, putting the ball in the back of the net in the 69th minute to solidify a hard-fought Lions' win. Leonardo Nogueira picked up his third assist of the season on a fantastic pass to Huertas.

The first 25 minutes saw the Lions have plenty of chances at goals, firing five shots on net. And although the Lions couldn't connect in the early going, the constant pressure forced North Georgia into a costly penalty in the 28th minute. That is when Cutler stepped to the penalty area and buried the first of his two penalty kick conversions on the night.

Cutler's foot once again proved worthy in the 59th minute. Another Saints' miscue led to the second penalty shot attempt for the Lions and Cutler. Cutler left no doubt on his second penalty kick effort, blasting the ball past the fooled keeper into the back of the goal. 10 minutes later, Huertas put the game out of reach, tallying his fourth goal of the season.

On the goal, Nogueira sprinted down the far right side of the field, making a defender miss as he curled towards the top of the 18-yard box. He spotted Huertas sprinting down the middle of the field and through the box. Nogueria delivered a pinpoint pass to the foot of Huertas, as he blasted ball into the net from point-blank range.

The 3-0 lead was more than enough as Erik Mozzo was once again stellar in net for the Lions making seven saves, including five in the second half. He is now 2-0 on the young season.

Saint Leo continued to press the issue on the offensive end blasting 17 total shots, 10 of which were on-goal.

The Lions' defense bent but never broke, allowing only nine shots on the evening. The shutout is the second consecutive for Saint Leo.

Next, the Lions will embark on their first road trip of the season. The squad will head to Pensacola, Fla. to take on the Argonauts of West Florida. The game is scheduled for Friday, September 4th at 8:30 pm. Lions' fans can follow all the action by clicking on the “Live Stats” link at
