Saint Leo, Fla. (June 18, 2008) - The Saint Leo University men’s soccer team has unveiled its schedule for the 2008 season. The Lions will play nine home matches and eight road matches during the 2008 campaign, which will kick off on Thursday, August 28 with a home match versus Montreat College (7:30 p.m.).
An early season road trip will see the Lions travel to Pensacola, Fla. to face perennial power West Florida on September 5 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Sunshine State Conference play begins with a home fixture against the defending SSC Tournament Champion University of Tampa on Tuesday, September 16 at home (7:00 p.m.). The Lions will also host SSC foes Eckerd, Barry and Nova Southeastern.
Road conference matches include trips to Florida Tech, Rollins, Florida Southern and Lynn. The regular season will conclude with a home fixture against Nova Southeastern on October 29 at 7:30 p.m.
The 2008 SSC Tournament will begin on Tuesday, November 4 with quarterfinal matches, while the semifinals and final will be played on November 7 and 9, respectively. NCAA post-season play begins on November 13 or 14 with regional competitions, while the 2008 NCAA Division II National Finals will be hosted by the University of Tampa on December 5-7.
Head coach Joel Harrison led Saint Leo to a 9-5-3 record in 2007, including a 4-3-1 mark in the SSC. The Lions return NSCAA/adidas All-South Region selections Brandon Whitsett (Sr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) and Jonathan Glenn (So., Maloney Gardens, Trinidad & Tobago). Also returning will be 2007 leading scorer and All-SSC selection Eusebio Montoya (Sr., Smithfield, N.C.).
