Saint Leo, Fla. (October 1, 2007) – Saint Leo University men’s soccer player Sam Luedke (Sr., Deltona, Fla.) was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week in the Sunshine State Conference, it was announced on Monday.  Luedke shared the honor with Eckerd goalkeeper Jim Lebonitte.

Luedke helped the Lions win all three games this week, as Saint Leo allowed only one goal and posted a pair of shutouts.  In Tuesday’s SSC match at Eckerd, the senior goalkeeper made six saves to preserve the clean sheet in SLU’s 1-0 double-overtime victory.  He then combined with Joey Gandolfo (Jr., Davie, Fla.) to round out the week with a team shutout at Georgia Southwestern.

Luedke was the third Saint Leo men’s soccer player to be named SSC Player of the Week in 2007, and the first to win the defensive honor.  Saint Leo student-athletes have now won eight SSC Player of the Week awards in the 2007-08 school year.

The Lions have won four straight matches overall and will return to action this weekend when the they host Florida Tech in a Sunshine State Conference match on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
