Thomasville, Ga. (September 28, 2007) – The Saint Leo University men’s soccer team (5-2-2) defeated Thomas University (1-8) by a score of 4-1 on Friday for the Lions third straight win and their fourth in the last five matches.

Four different Lions scored goals in the match, while Brandon Whitsett (Jr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) and Bruce Cutler (Fr., Inverurie, Scotland) each had a pair of assists.

Jonathan Glenn (Fr., Maloney Gardens, Trinidad & Tobago) scored the game’s opening goal in the 14th minute.  Thomas quickly equalized in the 18th minute, but the Lions regained their advantage in the 31st minute, as Luis Quintero (Sr., Cape Coral, Fla.) scored his first goal of the season.

In the second half, the Lions stretched their lead to two when striker Mikael Angesjo (Sr., Gothenburg, Sweden) scored his first goal of the campaign in the 69th minute.  Saint Leo sealed the victory in the 82nd minute when Eusebio Montoya (Jr., Smithfield, N.C.) score his team-leading eighth goal of the season on an assist from Whitsett.

The Lions controlled the match and finished with a 20-4 advantage in overall shots, and also a 15-1 lead in shots on goal.  Thomas goalkeeper Jan Feldman made 11 saves for the home side.

The Lions will face Georgia Southwestern State University on Sunday afternoon in Americus, Ga.  The game will begin at 3:30 p.m.
