Saint Leo, Fla. (January 18, 2007) – Former Saint Leo University men’s soccer player Asmir Pervan (Simmern, Germany) was selected by Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire in the league’s Supplemental Draft on Thursday. The Fire selected Pervan with the 34th overall pick of the draft.
“This is a true testament to the hard work of Asmir during his time at Saint Leo,” head coach Joel Harrison said. “The Chicago Fire is a great organization, which has won numerous trophies during its time in Major League Soccer and it is an honor to have one of our players selected.”
Pervan was an NSCAA/adidas Second Team All-American each of the last two seasons and ranks third all-time in Saint Leo men’s soccer history with 44 goals and 103 points. He was also named to back-to-back NSCAA/adidas All-South Region First Teams and First Team All-Sunshine State Conference each of the past two years.
During his senior season, the German native and a product of nearby Northeast High, scored 12 goals and totaled 27 points. That followed a career year in 2005 when, as a junior, Pervan scored 22 goals and added seven assists for 51 points.
