Saint Leo, Fla. (October 2, 2006) – Saint Leo University men’s soccer player Asmir Pervan (Sr., Simmern, Germany) was named Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.  The striker was selected for the second straight week and for the third time in the last four weeks.

Pervan led the Lions (6-4-1, 2-1-1 SSC) to a 1-0-1 record in a pair of conference matches last week, as he scored three goals in the two games to push his goal total for the season to 11.

The senior striker began the comeback against No. 17 Rollins College in midweek, as he scored the Lions’ first goal of the game and then five minutes later scored the winner, as Saint Leo erased a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2.  Pervan then scored the game’s first goal in a 2-2 double-overtime draw with Nova Southeastern, ending the Sharks (8-1, 2-0-1 SSC) perfect start to the conference season.

SLU student-athletes have claimed a total of six SSC Player of the Week awards in the 2006-07 school year with Pervan collecting half of the honors.

The Saint Leo men’s soccer team will host Trinity College of Florida on Tuesday (6:00 p.m.) and will return to conference play on Saturday with a trip to Florida Tech (4:00 p.m. kickoff).
