Sophomore Will Cothron Tabbed NCAA D2 Statistical Champion
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – With the 2014 men's lacrosse season in the books and final statistics tallied, sophomore midfielder and face-off specialist Will Cothron has been named the NCAA Division II statistical champion for Face-Off Winning Percentage.
The statistic propelled the entire Saint Leo men's lacrosse team to its first statistical title in program history, as the team also captured the 2013-14 title for Face-Off Winning Percentage.
Individually, Cothron led the entire nation with an outstanding .698 average, which broke a Saint Leo All-Time Record and earned him an All-Sunshine State Conference First Team Selection. Cothron currently holds one Saint Leo All-Time single game record for Face-Offs Won (25), which he registered against 10th-ranked Pfeiffer on April 12 of this year. During the 2014 season, Cothron also notched a single season record for ground balls, with 119.
The Lions ended their 2014 season in the Sunshine State Conference semi-finals, finishing the year with an 8-7 overall record and team Face-Off Winning Percentage of .662.
