No. 15 Lions Shellac Notre Dame de Namur, 22-6

Yonts Leads Game with Four Goals, 12 Lions Score En Route to Victory

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 15 Saint Leo men's lacrosse team made easy work of Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday evening at University Turf Stadium, steamrolling the Argonauts 22-6 to get back to their winning ways.

The win advances the Lions mark to 4-2 on the season, while NDNU drops to a record of 5-3.

Dylan Yonts led the game with four goals, and tacked on an assist for five points on the night.  Miles Britton earned a game-high six points, scoring two goals and assisting on four as the Lions routed NDNU.  In total, 12 Lions tallied goals, while nine added assists.

Joe Donnian earned the first goal of his career, and added two more for a hat trick, while Ryan McCarthy scored three goals of his own, as well.  Ryan Burke and Matt Weller netted two each, while Luke Gonzalez, Matt Obermeyer, Eric Gendron, Robert Hutchinson, Chad Marino, and Mike LaGuardia each scored one.  Gonzalez contributed two assists, while Gendron, Kevin Hutchinson, Josh Kaufling, McCarthy, Obermeyer, and Greg Strobl had one assist each.

Dave Moore opened the game between the pipes, allowing two goals while earning two saves in 42:09 minutes of action.  Jessee Leeman picked up two saves while allowing two more goals in 10:05 minutes of play, while Joe May stepped into cage for the final 7:46 to earn one save while yielding two shots.

Their counterparts for NDNU earned a combined 17 saves on the night, with Aaron Cruz allowing eight goals while making 12 saves, and John Honea allowing 14 goals while making five saves.

The Argonauts saw a team high three goals from Jordan Wagner, while Ryan Jones, Carter Olson, and Devin LaPorte each scored one.  Jones dished out two assists for a three point game to close out NDNU's scoring efforts for the night.

The Lions jumped out to a four goal over the course of the initial 10 minutes, and never looked back, outscoring NDNU 5-1 in the first period, and 3-1 in the second to hold onto an 8-2 lead at the half.  Saint Leo continued to ride its momentum throughout the final two quarters, outscoring the Argonauts 14-4 to close out the game with a 16 goal advantage.

The Lions outshot NDNU 69-17, and picked up 39 ground balls while the Argonauts collected 14.  The Lions won 26-of-32 faceoff attempts, with Will Cothron winning 18-of-19, Affatato winning 7-of-9, and Mark Lang winning 1-of-4 attempts.  Cothron led the game with 10 ground balls, while Kevin Hutchinson and Weller each picked up four.

The Saint Leo men's lacrosse team returns to action on Friday, March 14, when they take on Florida Tech in Melbourne, Fla.  Game time is slated for 7 p.m.  For more information, visit saintleolions.com.
