SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo junior attackman Matt Obermeyer has been named to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District Men's At-Large First Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Friday morning.
This marks the second straight season Obermeyer has earned First Team All-District honors.
The Winter Springs, Fla. native adds the Academic All District selection to his First Team All Deep South Conference, and 2013 DSC Co-Player of the Year honors. Second on the team in goals scored with 31, and adding six assists for 37 points on the season, Obermeyer helped the Lions to an 8-6 overall record and second place finish in the DSC with a mark of 5-2.
The team captain started all 14 games for the Lions this season, accumulating 21 ground balls, three caused turnovers, and a 63.6 shots-on-goal percentage while adding a man-up goal to his season total. A leader both on the field and in the classroom, Obermeyer punctuated his academic year with a 3.64 grade-point-average while aiming for his degree in Marketing.
The prestigious award honors the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
