Marino and Moore Earn Deep South Weekly Honors
WINGATE, N.C. – Saint Leo freshmen duo Chad Marino and Dave Moore earned Deep South Conference Player of the Week honors, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Moore collected his second Defensive Player of the Week nod this season, while Chad Marino was tabbed Freshman of the Week. Joining the Lions on the list of weekly awards was Florida Tech's Andrew Conley, earning the title of Offensive Player of the Week.
Moore led the Lions to a pair of victories last week, piling up 26 saves in the two contests. He started his week with 15 saves in a 12-8 conference win over Catawba. Moore had five saves in the third quarter, and shut out the Indians for the period. The Lake Mary, Fla. native capped his week with 11 saves against Mount Olive, leading the Lions to an 11-6 victory. He compiled a save percentage of .650 on the week, while also picking up 11 ground balls.
Marino also helped lead the Lions to a pair of wins last week. He was a key factor in the conference victory over Catawba, scoring three goals in the 12-8 victory. Marino handed out an assist to help Saint Leo notch an 11-6 victory over Mount Olive as the Lions improved to 4-2 overall.
Conley racked up 10 goals in two games for the Panthers last week, helping Florida Tech go 1-1. The Orlando, Fla. native started his week with five goals in the 12-11 overtime win against Belmont Abbey. His final goal of the contest was the game-winner, coming 1:51 into overtime. Conley capped his week by registering five goals and two assists in the loss against Mount Olive. He added four ground balls on the week, while winning 12-of-22 face-offs for Florida Tech.
The Lions return to action on Friday, March 15, when they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne to take on the Bears in Deep South Conference action. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. in Hickory, N.C.
