Moore and Caiazza Claim Weekly Deep South Conference Awards

WINGATE, N.C. – For their efforts in Saturday evening's game against cross-town rival University of Tampa, Saint Leo men's lacrosse players Chris Caiazza and Dave Moore have been named Deep South Conference players of the week, league officials announced Monday afternoon.  The duo's efforts helped the Lions pick up the first ever victory in University Turf Stadium for both the men's and women's lacrosse teams.

Caiazza earned the nod for DSC Offensive Player of the Week after a big game against the Spartans.  The Lindenhurst, N.Y. native helped the Lions win their first DSC contest of the season with the game-winning goal in overtime, capping off a night that saw him tally a game high five goals while adding a ground ball.  Caiazza placed two of his shots between the pipes on man-up situations for the Lions.

Moore piled up 21 saves in Saint Leo's 8-7 overtime victory.  He played the entire game Saturday night, recording over 62 minutes between the pipes for the Lions while allowing only seven goals facing 47 shots. The Lake Mary, Fla. native registered a save percentage of .750 on the night, while adding six ground balls.

Earning the third weekly honor was Rollins College midfielder Alex Petsos (Allen, Texas), who was tabbed the Freshman of the Week.   Petsos won 23 of 33 face-offs for the Tars on Sunday as Rollins dropped a 16-15 double overtime decision against Lindenwood.  He won eight-of-nine face-offs in the fourth quarter, while winning both face-offs in the overtime periods.  Petsos also caused six turnovers on the afternoon, while picking up six ground balls.
