Four Lions Earn 2013 Face-Off Yearbook: DII Preseason All-Conference Honors

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Inside Lacrosse released its 2013 Face-Off Yearbook Division II Preseason All-Conference teams, tabbing three Lions as preseason favorites in the Deep South Conference, it was announced Thursday. Robert Hutchinson, Matt Obermeyer, George Proechel, and newcomer Dylan Yonts all earned a spot on the 2013 squad.
Hutchinson, who earned Deep South Conference Player of the Week (4/2/12) and Saint Leo Athlete of the Week (4/9/12) accolades last season, competed in all 14 contests for the Lions in 2012, starting eight. The Islip Terrace, N.Y. native scored eight goals and added five assists in his sophomore campaign, adding a team high 79 ground balls and earning a .557 faceoff percentage, winning 107-of-192 attempts. Hutchinson was a vital member of the Lions' midfield crew, a produced in all areas of the field.
Obermeyer adds preseason conference honors to his Face-Off Yearbook DII Preseason All-American nod. In his sophomore campaign, the Winter Springs, Fla. native earned All-Deep South Conference First Team honors, was the DSC Offensive Player of the Week (3/19/12), earned Academic All-District First Team credit, and was the recipient of the Excellence Core Value Award. In 2012, Obermeyer led the team in goals scored with 38, and tacked on six assists for 44 points on the season, good for second best on the squad. Competing and starting in 13 games, Obermeyer set a new program record for goals in a season and goals per game in a season with 2.92. He added 19 ground balls and caused five turnovers on the season, and was indispensable to the Lions attack unit.
Proechel picks up the preseason award to kick off his senior campaign on a high note. Proechel's list of accolades includes All-Deep South Conference Second Team, and Preseason All-Conference honors in 2012, 2011 Second Team All-DSC, and DSC All-Conference credit in 2010. He has been named player of the week four times in his career. One of the most prolific players in program history, the Orlando, Fla. native currently sits third in points per season with 53, second in points per game with 3.71, second in goals in a season with 37, second in program history in career points with 137, career goals with 90, and career assists with 47. He leads the program in career man-up goals with 13, and is second in career game-winning goals with five. In 2012, Proechel started in all 14 games for the Lions, amassing 37 goals and added 15 assists for a team best 52 points. He added 20 ground balls and four caused turnovers to his total, and was a vital member of the attack unit.
Freshman Dylan Yonts earns the honor after being tabbed a 2012 US Lacrosse High School All American back in June. Guiding his team to the New York State Class 'C' State Finals and gaining recognition on the All-Tournament team, Yonts received the highest of athletic honors as he was selected a US Lacrosse All-American with a 46-goal, 29-assist senior campaign. The midfielder also earned All-Section First Team accolades, in addition to series of awards during a dominant junior season, including D&C All-Greater Rochester Super-16.
Saint Leo matches conference and cross-town rival Tampa for the most positions on the Deep South preseason team, with both teams collecting four spots apiece. Catawba claimed two positions, with Wingate and Florida Southern earning one position each.
