Saint Leo, Fla. (December 11, 2007) – The Saint Leo University lacrosse team was picked to finish fourth in the five-team Deep South Conference according to Face-Off Yearbook’s  pre-season predictions released recently.  In addition, Saint Leo players David Erdman (So., Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) and Brady Juelson (Sr., Palm Coast, Fla.) were named to the 2008 Face-Off Yearbook Pre-Season All-Deep South Conference Team.

Defending Deep South Conference regular season and tournament champion Wingate University was picked to repeat in 2008, with Mars Hill College second and Catawba College third.  The Lions, who finished fourth in the DSC last season during their first year in the league, were picked ahead of newcomer Rollins College in the five-team league.

Earlier this month Erdman was named a 2008 Pre-Season Second Team All-American by Face-Off Yearbook.  The Lions’ goalie was named the 2007 Deep South Conference Freshman of the Year and was also a member of the DSC All-Conference Team.  Juelson was among the nation’s leaders in ground balls as a junior, finishing the year ranked eighth in the country with 5.71 ground balls per game in 2007.

Saint Leo will open its 2008 season at home versus Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) on Saturday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m.   In addition to its games versus Deep South Conference opposition, the Lions’ schedule includes games against three teams ranked in the top-10 nationally (#4 Limestone, #5 Dowling and #10 Molloy).
