Saint Leo, Fla. (April 16, 2007) – Saint Leo University lacrosse player David Erdman (Fr., Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) has been named the 2007 Deep South Conference Freshman of the Year, it was announced Monday.

The Lions goalie was named Freshman of the Year and was also a member of the All-Conference Team along with teammate Ryan Harris (Sr., Vestal, N.Y.).  Erdman led the conference with a .627 save percentage.  He made 153 saves and has a goals against average of 8.39.

Harris led the Lions in the regular season with 29 goals, 21 assists and 50 points.  The senior attackman scored a pair of overtime game-winning goals in the regular season, and is Saint Leo’s all-time leading scorer with 61 goals, 37  assists and 93 points.

Mars Hill College sophomore David Hodgins was named the DSC Player of the Year after leading the league with 35 goals, 36 assists and 71 points.

Overall, Mars Hill and Wingate University led all DSC schools with four players apiece on the All-Conference team. Mars Hill freshman midfielder Danny Farmer (Calgary, Alberta), sophomore midfielder and face-off man Jeff Cizdziel (Stafford, Va.), junior defender Colbe Klein (West Grove, Pa.) and Hodgins make up the honorees for MHC.

For Wingate, junior attack man Kyle Costello (Wilmington, N.C.), senior midfielder Bryan Safarik (Vancouver, British Columbia), junior midfielder and face-off man Bob Chinn (Mooresville, N.C.) and junior defender Michael Watson (Wilmington, N.C.) all made the All-DSC team.

Players from Catawba College and Presbyterian College comprised the remainder of the All-DSC team. Catawba junior attackman Kurt Green (San Diego, Calif.) and junior defender Matt Puccio (Oakton, Va.) earned All-Conference laurels.

The Lions will face Wingate University in the Deep South Conference Tournament Semifinals on Friday at 5:00 p.m.  Catawba College will serve as host for the tournament and the Indians will face Mars Hill in Friday’s second semifinal.  The semifinal winners will meet Sunday in the Championship game.
