Saint Leo, Fla. (March 9, 2007) – Ryan Harris (Sr., Vestal, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal with 3:08 remaining in double-overtime to give the Saint Leo University lacrosse team (2-2, 1-1 DSC) its first-ever win in Deep South Conference play of Wingate University on Friday night.

Harris finished the night with two goals and three assists, while Benjamin Brigham (So., Scituate, Mass.) scored two goals.  Andrew Sousa (Jr., Scituate, Mass.) and Mark Dargon (So., Newton, Mass.) rounded out the goal-scoring for the Lions.

Wingate was led by Stephen Torkington who scored three goals for the Bulldogs.

Saint Leo fell behind early on, as the visiting Bulldogs scored the opening three goals to take a 3-0 lead after one quarter.  The Lions responded by scoring five unanswered goals, including two in the second, one in the third and a pair early in the fourth.

However, the Bulldogs rallied late in regulation to tie the score and force overtime.  Wingate made it a one-goal game with 31.4 seconds left to play and then knotted the game at 5-5 on Ryan Otterblad’s goal with 10.5 seconds left in the fourth.

After a scoreless first overtime period, Harris stepped forward to provide the winning margin with 3:08 left to play.

Next up for the Lions will be a home game against Queens University on Tuesday, March 13 at 4:00 p.m.
