VALDOSTA, Ga. – Saint Leo men's golf wrapped up day one and the opening round of the 2017 First Federal Southeastern Intercollegiate tied for eighth place out of the 18 team field after a 298 (+10) team total at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, hosted by No. 15 Valdosta State.

Saint Leo is tied for eighth with No. 10 North Alabama as No. 16 Florida Tech is leading the team leaderboard with a 283 (-5). Just behind the Panthers is No. 1 West Florida at four-under, 284, and No. 2 Lynn at even-par, 288.

The Lions, who played with No. 24 Flagler and Georgia College, saw Ryan Gendron fire off a one-under 71 after recording four birdies on the round to finish day one in a tie for fifth place.

Riley Goss and James Jessop, playing as the fourth and fifth players for Saint Leo, respectively, are both tied for 29th at three-over, 75. Jessop recorded 15 pars and three bogey's as Goss hit two birdies, 12 par's, two bogeys and one double bogey to make up his three-over.

Simon Knutsson tied for 58th after day one with a five-over 77 after sinking two birdies on the round and nine pars. Rounding out the starting five for the Lions was CJ Tyler who tied for 74th after round one with a seven-over, 79. Tyler made 13 pars on the night.

In the player individual leaderboard, West Florida's Chandler Blanchet turned in the best scorecard of the day with a 10-under, 62, beating out Florida Southern's John VanDerLaan and Florida Tech's Jonas Kugel. VanDerLaan turned in a seven-under, 65, as Kugel was at six-under, 66.

The 93 player field will get back to action Monday, March 13 with the second round of the Southeastern Intercollegiate, which will start with tee times at 8:21 a.m. at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga.
