SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo men's golf, ranked No. 20 by GolfStat, sits in 11th out of 15 teams following the first two rounds at the 36th Annual Matlock Collegiate Classic, hosted by No. 3 Florida Southern at Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland, Fla.
The Lions kicked off their spring season by shooting a two-round total of 586 (+10), with a first round total of 292 (+4) and a second round 294 (+6).
The starting five was led by Ryan Gendron, whose rounds of 71 (-1) and 73 (+1) were good enough to finish tied for 21st after the first day.
In his first appearance for the Lions, Simon Knutsson matched Gendron's 36-hole total of 144 after two consecutive even-par rounds of 72.
James Jessop also fired a second round 72 to move him up to tied for 39th after a morning round of 75 (+3).
No. 2 West Florida holds a one-stroke lead over No. 7 Nova Southeastern in the team competition, with a 36-hole total of 553 (-23). No. 1 Lynn stands in third after two rounds at 556 (-10).
The third and final round will get underway tomorrow starting with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
