RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - Saint Leo's men's golf team, ranked No. 13 by GolfStat, finished the first round of the UIS Island Getaway at the Rio Mar Country Club on Monday, Oct. 24 in third place with a 319 (+31) team total on the River Course.
The Lions were led by Ryan Gendron who sits tied for sixth. Gendron fired off a four-over, 76 during Monday's round on the par-72, 6902 yard course.
Colin Warren was second on the team and sits tied for 11th after a first round 79 (+7). Colby Tyler finished day one tied for 15th at 81 (+9), while Casey Bannon is sitting in 21st after a round of 83 (+11). Nilo Sanchez is sitting tied for 22nd following an 84 (+12).
Valdosta State starts off the final round sitting in first after a first round total of 294 (+6). Olav Zandveld (Valdosta State) and Nathan Goecks (Illinois-Springfield) lead the field and were the only two golfers in Monday's round to shoot under-par, 71 (-1).
Saint Leo will return to the course Tuesday, Oct. 25 for the final round of the UIS Island Getaway in Puerto Rico to close out the fall portion of their 2016-17 season, with a 7:30 a.m. tee time.
