#7 Men’s golf jump in the final day of the DII National Preview

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – No. 7 Saint Leo men's golf team jumped to finish tied for fifth out of the 18 teams playing at the NCAA Division II National Preview at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee on the Watson Course Tuesday with a third round score of 283 (-5). Saint Leo completed the tournament with a team total of 861 (-3) . 

The Lions made the three spot adjustment in the final 18 holes behind Hugo Bernard's third round 66 (-6) Tuesday. Bernard fired off a round consisting of eight birdies with four on the front for a 32 (-4) on the front nine and four on the back nine for a 34 (-2) on the back nine to make up his 66. Bernard charge to the top of the leaderboard forced a three-way tie with Florida Southern's John Coultas and John VanDerLaan. The trio of players finished the tournament with a 205 total (-11), before Coultas won the playoff hole with a birdie on the first hole.

Riley Goss finished the tournament at three-under, 213, after a final round 73 (+1) to go with his first round 69 and second round 71. Goss finished tied for 10th out of the 96 golfers.

Casey Bannon and Ryan Gendron both turned in an even-par 72 in the final 18 holes. Bannon finished tied for 31st with a tournament total 219 (+3) with rounds of 71-76-72. Gendron finished tied for 63rd at 224 (+8) after rounds of 76-76-72.

James Jessop finished tied for 80th after a third round 78. Jessop completed the tournament with a 231 (+15) with rounds of 76-77-78.

The Lions' individuals Gustav Tegel and Colin Warren finished tied for 60th and 89th, respectively. Tegel shot a 70 (-2) on the final day to complete his tournament total at 223 (+7). Warren finished with a 237 total (+21) after turning in rounds of 77 and 79 before Tuesday's final round of 81.

Saint Leo will head to the Golf Rank Invitational at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. at PGA National on Oct. 10 and 11 hosted by Nova Southeastern. The Lions will kick off the tournament on Monday with two rounds before Tuesday's final round.
