RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico – Saint Leo sophomore Hugo Bernard finished tied for 77th at the Men's World Amateur Team Championships Wednesday in Mexico in the playing of the 30th Eisenhower Trophy. Bernard and his teammates sit tied for 27th as a team.
Bernard is one of three golfers on team Canada as he is joined by Garrett Rank and Jared du Toit. On the day, Bernard individually sits in a tie for 77th after carding a 73 (+1) on the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club course.
The Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec native, tallied three straight birdies on holes eight, nine and 10 in his first round of the WATC. Bernard finished his round with two bogeys and one double-bogey.
The trio of golfers struggled out of the gate posting a collective score of even-par (144) to finish the first round tied for 27th.
The second round of the WATC kicks off Thursday with the first group teeing off at 7:15 a.m.
Format for the Tournament ...
Each team has two or three players, who each play 18 holes of stroke play over four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team's score for the championship.
