SAINT LEO, Fla. – From NCAA Champions to All-Academic team honors, the Saint Leo University men's golf team was getting it done on the course as well as in the class room this past season. The Lions earned the All-Academic team honor from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Wednesday, July 27.
The Lions were one of five Sunshine State Conference (SSC) teams honored as well as one of 42 Division II teams.
The squad owns a 3.34 team GPA, the highest in men's sports at Saint Leo, where eight golfers, Liam Ainsworth, Casey Bannon, Marcus Crowe, Ryan Gendron, James Jessop, Noah Purvis, Joey Savoie and Colby Tyler, were named to the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll this past spring. Three of those eight, Ainsworth, Gendron and Savoie, went on to earn Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar honors.
To be eligible for GCAA all-Academic Team honors a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. The All-Academic Teams were those with 3.0 or better GPAs and those with a 3.5 or better, earned President's Special Recognition.
