SAINT LEO, Fla. – Just four days after winning the first leg of the Quebec Provincial Men's Golf "Triple Crown", the Lord Alexander of Tunis, Hugo Bernard tied for fourth at the Duke of Kent on July 8 and 9. The Duke of Kent was the second leg of the Triple Crown where Bernard shot a 140 (-4) for the two rounds.
Bernard opened his weekend off with a 70 (-2) with one eagle, four birdies and four bogeys in his opening round of the Duke of Kent at the Royal Quebec Golf Club on Friday, July 8.
On Saturday, he returned to the course and fired off another 70, this time with three birdies and one bogey, to finish at two under. Bernard's duplicate scores pushed him to four-under for the tournament and saw him finish in fourth place, gaining 3,480 points towards the Order of Merit.
Bernard's point total on the Triple Crown's Order of Merit is now 7,480, which moved him up to eighth in the men's standings and has him sitting steady in first in the men's amateur team rankings.
The men's Triple Crown is composed of the Lord Alexander of Tunis, Duke of Kent and the men's Provincial Amateur Championship. The three best players on the Triple Crown's Order of Merit will form the provincial team representing Golf Quebec at the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship on August 8 to 11.
Bernard will now look to the Provincial Amateur Championship, which is the final leg of the Triple Crown, held on July 25-28 at the Islesmere Golf Club.
Not only is Bernard seeking to participate in the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship on August 8 and 9, he will play in the 2016 U.S. Amateur Championships on August 15-21 at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., after qualifying at the sectional qualifying round on Monday, July 11. Bernard shot a 139 (-5) to tie for first place and qualified at the Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, N.Y. with rounds of 71 and 68. (US AM Qualifier Results)
