After starting the championships with a 278 (-10) score after round one, Saint Leo's men's head golf coach Chris Greenwood said "It's a good start. But this is a long week and getting off to a good start is important but they don't hand out hardware after the first round; it's just a part of it and it's nice to be where we are at with a round under our belt heading into tomorrow. We look forward to it."
Bernard, who leads the individuals in total birdies with eight, shot a 31 (-5) on the front nine with a 34 (-2) on the back nine to make up his 65 score.
