NORMAN, Okla. -- The Saint Leo men's golf team finished the 2015 campaign in the semifinals of the NCAA Championship. The Lions were one of three Sunshine State Conference schools to finish the season in the top-four. Despite returning all five National participants, including two PING All-Americans, the Lions have been placed seventh in the Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Preseason Top-25 poll the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced.
Defending national champion Nova Southeastern received 16 first-place votes to debut atop the Poll. The Sharks were also ranked No. 1 in the final seven regular season polls last season.
NCAA runner-up Lynn received two first-place votes and is ranked second. USC Aiken is third. Fourth-ranked Barry received the final first-place vote. Central Missouri and Florida Southern are tied at No. 5, followed by Saint Leo, Chico State, Simon Fraser and CSU-Monterey Bay.
All eight teams that advanced to medal-match play at last spring's NCAA Championships are ranked in the top 10.
The duo led the Lions in their historic effort to the NCAA DII Final Four in May.
Savoie was named a second team All-American while Gendron picked up third team All-America honors. Savoie was ranked seventh in the Division II by Golfstat for the majority of his sophomore campaign. Gendron turned in the highest finish by a Saint Leo individual at the NCAA Championships in program history. The Tampa native finished in third place.
The Lions will open the 2015 fall season at the Columbus State Cougar Invitational September 21.
