Men's Golf punches ticket to 2015 NCAA Finals

DADE CITY, Fla. -- The Saint Leo men's golf team advanced to the 2015 Division II Men's Golf Championship thanks to a fifth place finish Wednesday. The Lions combined for a third round 293 and remained in position to advance as one of six teams from the South & Southeast Regional. James Jessop led the Lions and tied for fourth after an amazing final round score and personal low score of 68. 

The Lions advance to the NCAA finals for the first time in program history as a team, and join four other Sunshine State Conference members. Nova Southeastern, Lynn, Barry and Florida Southern will make the trip to North Carolina May 18-22. Joining the SSC contingent is South Carolina Aiken. Nova Southeastern claimed the top spot on the team leaderboard and the Sharks' Richard Mansell was the top Individual. 

Jessop led the Lions in a tie for fourth place, while Ryan Gendron joined Jessop in the top-15. Gendron carded 13 birdies over the course of 54-holes. Joey Savoie followed in a tie for 39th while Liam Ainsworth and Erick Alonso rounded out the squad. 

Saint Leo advances to the 2015 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships in Conover, N.C. The Lions enter as the no. 5 seed from the South and Southeast Regional and will play at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa Monday, May 18. Saint Leo will play in the first-round pairing at noon.
