DADE CITY, Fla. -- The Saint Leo men's golf team currently falls in a tie for after the first round of the 2015 Division II Men's Golf Regional Championship. Saint Leo is hosting the super regional at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
The Lions turned in a first round 296 and lie 20 strokes behind the leader, Lynn University. The Knights dominated the first round, scoring twelve-under par as a team. Nova Southeastern was the only other team to shoot under par (281, -7). In Third place is Florida Southern (292, +4) while South Carolina Aiken and Limestone College are tied for fourth (293, +5). Georgia Southwestern, Barry, Columbus State and Saint Leo are tied for sixth thanks to team scores of 296.
Ryan Gendron and Joey Savoie lead the Lions after 18 holes. The pair falls in an eight-way tie for 20th place. The Individual Leader is Martin Cancino from Lynn University with a 66 (-6) and 11 golfers shot under par. Gendron turned in five birdies in the first round, while Savoie shot even for 14 holes.
Saint Leo will tee off Tuesday afternoon beginning at 12:50. The Lions are paired with Columbus State and West Georgia in the second round.
