MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Sophomore Joey Savoie was named Second Team All-Sunshine State Conference the Conference office announced Tuesday. Savoie led the Lions to a sixth place SSC Tournament finish and helped the squad earn a bid to the 2015 NCAA Regional Bid.
Savoie was the top Saint Leo finisher on the individual leaderboard with a three-day tally of 214 (-2). Savoie was tied for seventh overall. Savoie carded a team low 70 in the first round, a second round 71 and a third round 73.
This season Savoie turned in five top-10 finishes. Savoie averaged 70.60 in the fall and a spring score of 73.20. In his sophomore campaign, the Quebec native led the Lions with a low average of 72.16.
Nova Southeastern's Santiago Gomez was unanimously named Golfer of the Year. Florida Southern's John VanDerLaan was named Freshman of the Year and Nova Southeastern head coach Ryan Jamison was named Coach of the Year.
Nova Southeastern, Lynn, Barry, Saint Leo, Florida Southern, and Florida Tech were all selected to compete at the South/Southeast Regional on May 4-6 in Dade City, Florida at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club. At a minimum, the top three teams will advance to the finals May 18-22, at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, North Carolina.
The Saint Leo University men's golf team was selected to compete in the 2015 NCAA South/Southeast Regional. The Lions earned the No. 4 seed in the South Region the NCAA announced Friday afternoon. The Super Regional will be hosted by Saint Leo at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
