Saint Leo finishes third at Bobcat Invitational

EATONTON, Ga. -- Ryan Gendron fired an even-par 70 and finished with a 54-hole total of 214 (+4) to lead the Lions in the final round Tuesday. Trevor Joseph snagged a piece of seventh place at four-over par for the tournament. The pair led Saint Leo to a third place finish at the 2015 Bobcat Invitational on the Par 70, 6,730-yard Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee course.

As a team, the Lions carded a third round score of 296, and was one of four teams to score below 300 hundred in the final round. 

No. 1 Nova Southeastern University men's golf team maintained its flawless spring season and earned its third consecutive tournament crown. The Sharks finished with a 4-over-par score of 844 (278-279-287), defeating second-place South Carolina-Aiken by 11 strokes.

Axel Ostensson (South Carolina Aiken) was the lone player of the tournament that finished all three rounds under par. He opened the tournament with a two-under par, 68. Ostensson notched a one-under par, 69, in the second round. During the final round, Ostensson once again fired a one-under par, 69. He tallied a score of 206, besting the second place finisher by three strokes for the individual title.

Joseph earned his first top-10 finish of 2015 of the campaign, while Gendron notched his third top-20 finish in four tournaments this spring. 

Joey Savoie (217/T21st), Liam Ainsworth (219/T26) and Erick Alonso (223/T46th) rounded out Saint Leo's starting five. 

 The Bobcat Invitational featured some of the best Division II teams in the southeast, including 10 top-25 teams and five in top-10 in the latest Golfstat Head-to-Head ranking. The field was led by No. 1 Nova Southwestern University and featured three more top-five teams with No. 2 Barry University, No. 4 USC Aiken, and No. 5 Lynn University.  The strength of the field continued with No. 6 Saint Leo, No. 10 Florida Southern College, No. 14 Columbus State University, No. 18 Georgia Southwestern State University, No. 20 University of West Florida and No. 22 University of North Alabama.​

Saint Leo will return to action Monday, March 30-31 in Miami Shores, Fla. at the Buccaneer Invitational, hosted by Barry University.
