VALDOSTA, Ga. -- 18 birdies and two eagles pushed the Lions up four positions on the team leaderboard Monday at the Southeastern Collegiate Tournament at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club. Led by sophomore Joey Savoie, the Lions lead the 18-team field by nine strokes.
It's tough to decide who had the best day for the Lions, but the five-member team combined for a second round team low score of 276 (-12), the lowest team score to be turned in through two rounds at the 2015 Southeastern Collegiate. Three Lions sit in the top-10 and four golfers shot even or under par in Monday's 18-holes.
Joey Savoie moved from seventh to the top of the individual leader board after a second round 68 (-4). The Quebec native leads North Alabama's Forrest Knight by one stroke with a combined low socre of six-under 138 (70-68) after 36 holes. Savoie carded four birdies and an eagle on 14 (par 5, 540 yards) in the secound round, his best nine played on the back for a 9-hole score of 33 (-3).
Erick Alonso led the Lions with a second round 67 (-5), and drained a hole in one on the 15 hole (par 3, 209 yards). The freshman turned in four birdies in the second round and is currently in sixth place with a 36-hole score of two-under 142 (75-67).
