Lions improve to fourth place in Pirate Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Saint Leo men's golf team placed fourth out of 15 teams with a final round score of 305 at the Armstrong Pirate Invitational hosted by Armstrong State at the Savannah Quarters Country Club. 

Saint Leo finished the 54-hole tournament with a team score of 885 (+21), 17 strokes behind the tournament champion Nova Southeastern. 

Erick Alonso led the Lions and finished the invitational in a five-way tie for third. The freshman posted a third round score 75 (+3) and finished 54-holes with an even 216 (69-72-75). Alonso turned in the first top-10 finish of his young career and the Lions sixth top-10 finish of the season. 

Joey Savoie tied for 17th place, and carded a third-round score of 76. Ryan Gendron led the Lions with a low-score 72 in the third round. Liam Ainsworth and Daniel Pico rounded out the Lions scoring with third round scores of 82 and 83 respectively. 

Saint Leo will return to action in two weeks at the Southeastern Intercollegiate hosted by Valdosta State in Valdosta, Ga.
