SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Saint Leo men's golf team will enter the final round of the Armstrong Pirate Invitational in 6th place after posting team scores of 293 and 287 on day one. Final round tee times for Saint Leo start at 8:45 am on Tuesday.
Erick Alonso led the Lions after two rounds and finished one stroke behind the leaders Benedict Gebhardt (Wingate University) and Carr Vernon (CSU-Monterey Bay). Alonso opened the invitational with a 3-under 69, and followed even in the second round for a 36-hole score of 141 (-3).
Joey Savoie sits in an eight-way tie for 16th place thanks to a score of 144. The Quebec native started slow in the first round and carded a 74, but followed with a second round score of 70 (-2).
Daniel Pico, Liam Ainsworth and Ryan Gendron each grabbed a share of 32nd place on the individual leaderboard, going 5-over through 36 holes. Pico went 74-75, Ainsworth carded a 76-73 and Gendron scored a 77-72.
Wingate University leads the 15-team field after the first two rounds of the Armstrong Pirate Invitational at Savannah Quarters Country Club (par 71, 6897 yards). The Bulldogs shot a 284 in the first round and a 286 in the second round for a 36-hole total of 570.
