SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men's golf team climbed to No. 11 in the most recent Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division II coaches poll.
The Lions were previously ranked 19th, but received a boost from a pair of top-half-of-the-field finishes in two tournaments loaded with Division II teams from the GCAA poll.
Saint Leo was seventh out of 17 teams in its own Saint Leo Invitational, which featured five of the top 10 teams in the rankings. The Green and Golf followed up that effort with a third place finish at the Nova Southeastern Guy Harvey Invitational, which boasted 12 teams from the top 25.
The Lions are one of six Sunshine State Conference teams to hold a spot in this week's GCAA top 25.
Previously-No. 2 ranked Nova Southeastern moved into the top position in the poll, overtaking Barry University who fell into the second spot. Lynn University fell two spots to No. 6 in this week's poll, while Florida Southern appears in the No. 17 position after climbing one place. Florida Tech was tabbed 19th and rounds out the SSC entries in the top 25.
Saint Leo competes on Monday, Oct. 27, and Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Rollins College McDonough Cup, which takes place at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
