PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Saint Leo University sophomore Ryan Gendron fired a 68 in each of his two rounds to finish the day second on the leaderboard at the Nova Southeastern University Guy Harvey Invitational, Monday at the PGA National Resort and Spa.
Gendron carded an eight-under 136 at the par 72, 7,045-yard Champion Course at PGA National, and is one stroke off the lead. Barry University's Adam Svensson leads the field after a nine-under 135 through 36 holes on Monday.
Sophomore Joey Savoie shot rounds of 71 both times around the course and is tied for sixth with a two-under 142.
Gendron and Savoie spearheaded the Lions to a team score of 572 after 36 holes of the NSU Guy Harvey Invitational. Saint Leo was one of only two teams to finish the day under par at four-under; top-ranked Barry fired a 559 with four golfers among the top 11 and returned to the clubhouse at 17-under.
Freshman Riley Goss carded rounds of 72 and 71 respectively for a total of 143, and was one of six players tied for 11th place at one-under.
Junior Liam Ainsworth was further back in the field tied for 44th, after firing 81 and 70 over two rounds for a seven-over 151. Freshman Colin Warren carded a 156 with rounds of 82 and 74 and is tied for 84th, while freshman C.J. Tyler posted scores of 83 and 75 in his two rounds for a 158 on the day.
On the team leaderboard, No. 2 Nova Southeastern trails Saint Leo in third place with an even-par 576, while the University of Indianapolis finished the day in fourth place with a seven-over 583. No. 4 Lynn University is one stroke behind UIndy in fifth place with a 584.
Play resumes on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at PGA National's Champion Course with a shotgun start.
