Ainsworth tied for 5th and three strokes in back of the leader after the first day
SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University golfer Ryan Gendron shot a first round four under par 68, which is good enough for a share of first place after day one at the Sunshine State Conference Golf Championships at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
Gendron paced the Lions who shot a team total of 284. Saint Leo is just two strokes behind Barry and Lynn who each shot a 282 and share the top spot.
Nova Southeastern shot a total of 293, and is in fourth place, while Florida Tech rounds out the top five after shooting a first round score of 294.
Joining Gendron in the top five of the individual standings is Liam Ainsworth who is tied for fifth place shooting a first round total of 71 and is just three strokes off the lead.
Rounding out Saint Leo's competitors is Trevon Joseph who shot an 80 on day one and is in a tie for 38th.
Saint Leo will hit the course again on Monday, April 14, for second round play at Lake Jovita. Joseph will get things started for the Lions teeing off at 9:55 a.m. Following Joseph will be Heinz at 10:05 a.m., Savoie at 10:15 a.m., Ainsworth at 10:25 a.m. and Gendron at 10:35 a.m.
