AUSTIN, Tex. – Freezing weather and icy conditions limited the St. Edwards Men's Golf Tournament to just two rounds at the par-72 Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin on Tuesday. Despite a 14th place finish in the first round of play on Monday, the Saint Leo men's golf team finished the two-round tournament tied for 10th place among the 16-team field with a team score of 611.
Freshman Joey Savoie led the effort for the Lions, posting a one-under 71 for a final score of 148. Savoie's final score came in at just four strokes over par.
Sophomore Trevor Joseph also shot a 71 on the day, earning him a final score of 151 for the tournament. His finish tied him for 30th place among the 85-man field.
Freshman Casey Bannon and Ryan Gendron both posted a two-over 74 on the afternoon. Bannon, who finished the tournament with a score of 156, tied for 54th among the competition. Meanwhile, Gendron posted a 157 score for the two rounds and tied for 60th place.
Senior Chaz Heinz also finished in a tie for 60th, earning a final score of 157.
No. 1 Barry took home the team prize for the tournament, shooting six-under for a score of 570. Barry's Adam Svensson posted a ten-under to capture the individual trophy, while No. 4 CSU-Monterey Bay's Carr Vernon shot two-under to finish in second place.
The Lions will return to action on Monday, March 10 when they kick off the Southeastern Collegiate Invitiational at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Georgia. The tournament is set to tee off at 8am.
