Men's Golf in 14th after First Round of St. Edwards Invitational

AUSTIN, Tex. – After freezing temperatures and rain, the decision has been made to restrict the St. Edwards Invitational to just two rounds of play. The Saint Leo men's golf team finished the first round of play Monday afternoon tied for 14th place from the par-72 Grey Rock Golf Club.

Tied for 31st place among the 81-man field is the Lions' Joey Savoie, who shot a five-over 77 to lead the Saint Leo effort. Sophomore Trevor Joseph followed his lead with a score of 80 to tie for 54th place.

Both Casey Bannon And Chaz Heinz finished the day tied for 65th, shooting an 82 in the first round.

Rounding out the Lions' group was Ryan Gendron, whose 11-over score ties him for 74th among the field.

The 16-team field features five top-25 contenders, including No. 1 Barry and No. 4 CSU-Monterey Bay, who are currently tied for 1st place, as well as No. 10 Western New Mexico (3rd place), No. 17 CSU-Stanislaus (4th place), and the host school, No. 25 St. Edwards (5th place).

Due to probable weather conditions, the Lions will return to action on Tuesday when they finish up the second and final round of play.
