SAINT LEO, Fla. –The men's golf team wrapped up the Sunshine State Conference championship on Tuesday afternoon from Lake Jovita, finishing in ninth place with a team total score of 317-304-299—920.
The Lions' score of 299 in the final round was their best round score of the championship, but finished ten strokes shy of eighth place Tampa.
"As a coach it's never easy to have your conference season end with this kind of performance," Head Coach Ray Cisbani said after the round. "But there will never be excuses because we are in control on every shot, and the control wasn't as good as we would have liked it to be."
The Lions were led in the final round by Chaz Heinz who fired an impressive score of 69—the lowest out of the entire field in today's round. Heinz finished the tournament with scores of 80-77-69—226.
"Chaz's performance was really good and steady from tee to green, which lead to the low round," Cisbani added.
Following Heinz in the final round was freshman Trevor Joseph, who turned in his best round of the championship with a score of 79-77-75—231. Coming in with the same total score for the tournament was Austin Grey who matched his second round score with another 76 in the final round.
Nick Brothers, who has been one of the most solid and consistent players in program history, carded a 79 in his last conference match as a Lion. Brothers' total score for the tournament was 80-74-79—233.
Rounding out the team was Ryan Connors, who struggled in today's final round with a score of 86.
